PROGRESS REPORTS
- Purchase of lavaliere microphone: The new lavaliere microphone has been purchased and is in use.
- Facility Security on Sundays (Greg King) – Greg reported that a sign up sheet will be used to obtain persons willing to take the responsibility for closing up the church on Sunday. There is a list of steps to be taken when closing the church available to those who volunteer.
- Facility Improvements as recommended by New Beginnings Consultant – (Greg King) In process.
- Camp Quixote Update – (Karen Nye) The permit application for hosting Camp Quixote will be turned in to the City of Olympia November 20. The neighborhood meeting will be held on Saturday, December 13 at 10:00 in the Church Library. The camp will move in on December 27th and remain until March 26.
- Hand Bell Repair: Karen reported that $850 has been pledged for hand bell repair at this time. The special offering for the bells will be taken on November 23. The balance necessary to repair the bells will be taken from Memorial Funds (previously approved by the Board.)
- Dispute Resolution Request for Meeting Space: Dispute Resolution withdrew their request for meeting space due to the fact that we will be hosting the Overflow Shelter during the time of their request. There would not be enough space for their needs.
- Overflow Shelter: Most host spots have been filled. Mandatory training will be held after worship on Sunday, November 23, 2008
- New Beginnings: There is no new word from our consultants at this time.
ITEMS FOR DISCUSSION AND/OR DECISION
- Worship recommendation: It is recommended by the worship task force to update the sound system to enable us to play CDs and Power Point presentations through the regular system.
- Decision: Approved.
- Request from St. James Anglican Church: The congregation of St. James Anglican has expressed a desire to rent our sanctuary for Sunday morning worship.
- Decision: Because of our New Beginnings process we can not enter into a possible rental discussion at this time.
- Request from Bread and Roses: Bread and Roses has expressed a desire to rent the church basement for their Advocacy and Survival Center in March 2009. They are losing the lease on their current location for which they pay $1100.00 per month. About 70 people per day use Bread and Roses services.
- Decision: Because of our New Beginnings process we can not enter into a possible rental discussion at this time. If they return at a later time we may reconsider entering into conversation with them at that time.
- Request by Mars Hill Church: The Mars Hill Church in Olympia has requested to enter into conversation to use our building for Sunday worship.
- Decision: Because of our New Beginnings process we can not enter into a conversation at this time.
- Fence Repair: We received a call from the owner of the building which SPI Annex now occupies. One of the fence posts between our building and theirs has been bent. They requested that we take care of the repair. Pastor Mary will contact them and express that, money-wise, the repair is a low priority item for us. They would be welcome to make the repair, however.
- Should the Board appoint a special task force to study the budget-building process?: (Karen) Karen provided the board with additional material on how to build a church budget. Members were asked to review this and be prepared to make a decision on this at the next meeting.
