Call to order: Karen Nye

Approval of Board Minutes - It was moved and seconded that we dispense with the reading of the minutes of November 19, 2008. The minutes were approved as received via email.

Financial Report - Judy Bushell reported that the Contingency fund CD has been renewed as approved by board members via email in December.

  • Elders - Judy Gregorius reported that the Globeldales will speak at the February 11th Elder/Deacon meeting. Dinner will be at 5:45 and the program will begin at 6:30 PM. The entire congregation is invited to attend.
  • Pastor - Mary reported that she has just returned from “Bridging the Generation Gap”, the UCC Pastoral Meeting. She was very enthused about the topic and the entire meeting. She will also be attending a training session in Indianapolis in March, that will address skills for pastors who may want to be trained for new church starts.
  • Deed - Si Sarton reported that the Valentine Party for Evergreen Vista will be on Friday, February 13.
  • Worship - Joanne Goodwin recommended that two pews on each side of the Sanctuary be removed. The other pews will then be repositioned to allow more space between each pew. This is a topic that has been in the discussion stage for some time. The board members approved this by consensus. The Worship Task Force will work out the details.
  • Word - Jan Carlson reported that there will be a Swim Party for the children and youth on February 28. It will be held at Colonial Estates swimming pool. She also reported that the Lenten Bible study will be held during February and March. The will be three classes, all held at the church. Watch the newsletter and Worship folder for details.
  • Property - Greg King reported that all the toilets have been replaced. There is still a need for people to lock up after worship on Sundays. Greg will be in the entry way after worship on Sunday to enlist volunteers.

ITEMS FOR DISCUSSION AND/OR DECISION

Creating a New Budget

· Karen led a discussion on how we might develop our budget for the 2009-10 budget year. She used the following questions, plus other thoughts, to think through the steps we must take as we enter the next phase of New Beginnings.

o What are we doing now?

o Impact of new Beginnings?

o What are our priorities?

o Things to ponder?

· Two meetings were scheduled for the congregation to discuss our next steps in New Beginnings. The meetings are:

o Wednesday, February 18 at 5:30 until 8:00 PM. Dinner will be provided.

o Saturday, February 21 from 10:00 AM – 12:00 noon.

o Joanne Goodwin and Judy Gregorius will organize the meal for the 18th and will call congregational members to invite them to one of the two meetings.

Closing: Mary closed with a simple but vital reminder: “We are all God’s beloved children.” We must not forget this as we travel the next period of our life together.

The New Beginnings meeting on February 18th will be held in lieu of our regular board meeting in February.
