Board Minutes

March 17 , 2010

Those attending:  Karen Nye, Robert Smith, Judy Gregorius, Jim Brown, Judy Bushell, Brenda Hatcher, Rachel Crum, Mark Wilton

 

Devotion:  Karen Nye shared a message by Sandy Messick.

 

Minutes:  Approved as printed.

 

Financial:  Judy Bushell

The garbage disposal is being repaired.  The cost is $2492.51.  $1700 is available in the over and above property donations.  Judy asked for permission to use memorial funds for $790.51.  The board approved the expenditure of memorial funds.

 

Regional Assembly delegates.  The board approved Jan Carlson, Don Carlson and Karen Nye.

 

Nominating Task Force:  Sherrie Fisher, Joanne Goodwin, Barb Reynolds and Nancy Nelson were approved by the board to serve on the Nominating Task Force.

 

Request for free will offering for NAPAD (North America Pacific/Asian Disciples).  Approved by the board.  Brenda will announce this in church and include an article in the Capital Christian.  The offering will be received the last Sunday of April.

 

Update on Family Shelter. 

Karen reported that a walk through of the basement was conducted on March 10 to ascertain needed improvements for the Women’s and Family Shelter planned by the Family Support Center. Included were people from Westwood Baptist Church, our church, Phil Owen from Family Support Center, inspectors from the city of Olympia,  and Selena Kilmoyer.  There are still items to be finalized and final approval from the city.

 

Search Committee Update:

Mark Wilton reported on the schedule for the visit of the new church minister candidate April 15-18. 

 

Discussion of pages 14-16 of Ministry Plan.  

This information was discussed and no changes will be made at this time.

 

Worship – Rachel Crum

Rachel reported on plans for Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday and Easter.  In addition, services on April 25 and May 2 will be held in Koinonia Hall.  They will involve the congregation in visioning discussions.  Plans are in the process to fill the pulpit on May 9 through May 23 when Bill will be away.

 

Property- Jim Brown

Jim reported that in addition to the repair of the garbage disposal that a new hot water heater has been installed in the church office.  Signage for the parking lot across the street is needed. The property task force will take care of this need.  The alarm system needs to be updated.  The cost is $360.  This update was approved by the board.

 

Deed – Brenda Hatcher

Brenda reported on the Valentine’s party at Evergreen Vista and the Valentine Brunch for Camp Quixote.  Several members of the church were also involved in a community fund raiser for Evergreen Vista as a way to honor Paul Grudis who recently resigned due to advanced stage of cancer.  Plans are underway to dye eggs on Saturday, April 3.  Brenda has contacted the Family Support Center to invite families with children to attend and take part in the dyeing of eggs.  An Easter Morning Brunch is also scheduled.

 

Word – Robert  Smith

Robert announced that scholarships for summer camps are available.  He will provide information in the Capital Christian and contact potential campers and their families.

 

Elders – Judy Gregorius

Plans for April and May Elder/Deacon studies are underway.  The April meeting will be a discussion around the topic: “ How are Things Going? “ or how we are doing with only a part-time pastor and how we will continue to experience this as the Planter Pastor is chosen. 

 

Other announcements:

  • Kathy Erlandson of Interfaith Works is retiring.  A reception will be held April 25 from . 
  • Mark announced that Sherrie and Larry will be on vacation April 7-14.  Volunteers are needed to fill in while they are gone.
