Board Minutes

September 16, 2009

 

Present:  Karen Nye, mark Wilton, Rachel Crum, Robert Smith, Mary Olney-Loyd, Judy Bushell, Jim Brown.

Minutes from Previous Meeting

The minutes of  August 19, 2009 Board Minutes were approved.

 

Parish Nursing

Alison Campbell requested permission to serve as First Christian Parish Nurse.  She presented an informational program with an opportunity for discussion and question and answers.  We currently have $731 (a previous grant) designated for parish nursing.  Robert Smith moved that we adopt a Parsih Nursing program with Alison Campbell and that we take the necessary steps to implement the program.  Mark Wilton seconded the motion.  The motion passed.  There will be a commissioning ceremony at a later date.

 

Stephen Ministries.  After discussion it was decided to delay further consideration of this program until spring, looking toward 2011.

 

Word

·         Jan Carlson is organizing teachers for the children’s class.  The youth room is being decorated.  The congregation will be invited to view the newly renovated room. 

·         Adults may have a class on a PBS program called Renewal.

·         Don Carlson is working on a January Health Care Series.

 

Property

Will Ulry reported that  on a fence around the back stairs is being built to help prevent the continual accumulation of debris in that area.  The summer work parties went well.  One of the tasks accomplished was the replacement of the pew supports.

 

Elders

The October meeting program is on the Parish Nursing Program.  All are welcome to attend.

 

Worship:

There will be a play for Worship on November 1.  That is also All Saints Day and candles will be lit for those who are no longer with us. 

 

Search Team (see notes and vision statement handout)

The Board accept the vision statement as presented.  The team will present at a Sunday School class on October 11.  Mark Wilton ask for $200 budget to start.  Ultimately the budget could be $2000 per candidate.  The team is working on a better community profile.

 

Transition Team

The team is struggling to find a clear focus.  They will present progress at the October 25th Sunday School time.

 

Announcements

·         Frank Goowin will be attending the Gwinwood Corporate Board in November with Karen Nye.

Interfaith Works is sponsoring a fund raiser event at our church on October 10.

 

Next Board Meeting

 The next meeting will be Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at in the church library.
